This Onam is going to be different for Prithviraj, the fast emerging star of South Indian cinema. While he gets ready to play a key role in Mani Rathinam's next film, the big news is that it's going to be a double bonanza for him this Onam. The season will witness back-to-back releases of two Prithviraj-starrers in Malayalam - Thirakatha and Thalappavu.Thalappavu, which is actor Madhupal's debut directorial venture, is a very sensitive film that speaks of the friendship shared between a naxalite youth and a policeman. While Prithviraj plays the naxalite youth named Joseph, Lal plays the cop named Raveendran Pillai. The cast also includes Atul Kulkarni, Dhanya Mary, Jagathy Sreekumar, Meera Krishna, Geetha Vijayan, Sreejith Ravi, Sudheer Karamana etc. The highlight of the film is cinematography by Alagappan and screenplay by Babu Janardhanan. Thirakatha, directed by Ranjith (who gave Prithviraj his first hit in Nandanam), has the actor playing the role of a young film-director named Akbar Ahmed. The film, which has national award winner Priyamani and Samvritha Sunil as the lead ladies, explores the world of cinema in typical Ranjith style. The cast also includes Siddique, Anoop Menon, Mallika Sukumaran, Nandu, Augustine Jagathy Sreekumar, Manianpillai Raju, Nishant Sagar etc. M.J. Radhakrishnan wields the camera for the film.
